Video Annotations: New Beta Feature

We're happy to announce a new way to add interactive commentary to your videos: Video Annotations. Using this new tool you can add background information on-screen, create branching ("choose your own adventure" style) stories or add links to any YouTube upload, channel, or search results page -- at any point in your video.

Uploaders have control over creating and editing an unlimited number of annotations on their videos. To start annotating, first make sure you have videos uploaded into your account. Log in, then go to view one of your videos. On the Video page, click the blue "Edit Annotations" button to the right of the video.

As you play your video, you can insert commentary by adding speech bubbles, notes and highlight boxes anywhere you want. You can also use the menu on the left to save a draft, delete commentary, edit start/stop times or add links to your annotations. Once you save the final version, click "Publish" to reveal your annotated video to other users. (Note: Video Annotations are shown by default, but the viewer can turn them off while watching a video through the "Menu" button on the bottom right of the video player).

Looking for some creative ways to use annotations? Check out these examples: a shell game, skydiving adventure and magic trick.

We're really looking forward to seeing how you decide to use this new facility and will add more fun tools and features soon!

this is actually a good feature I congratulate Youtube for!
I also love how they allowed us to have our own front/home page. I am tired of seeing rubbish videos on the Youtube home page!

I still don't like the contact, inbox and messaging section submerged together, but I like how I can access them separately from my home page.

One thing that irritates me now is the reason why they changed the Youtube Player design...it looks rubbish! I can't even stop the track at a certain section!
If the player design was to implement the annotation feature that's fine, if not...they ruined another design!

Its alright to add more features to Youtube, but if you people keep changing the designs, people will just leave!

This is a good feature...
But I just want to suggest if you can change the fonts, style (bold, italic) and colour...

Arial is somewhat boring.

-------

xino... ditto about the player design, no more reset (back from the start) and original image size functions... bring it back!

and please bring back the Gaming/Gadgets section for the Video section.

My videos are getting little ratings, less comments and lesser views!
Before when the Gaming/Gadgets section was still in the Video Section, my video was always noticed...but now, people seem to forget even though I have enough subscribers.

It feels like my videos are just going to a waste:/

the annotations are quite a good idea, and has especially been harnessed by a YouTuber who's made an interactive IQ Test.

i added this to my video, and look greats~
but why i embed to my blog and cannot see any annotation??
need to wait for some more times for the edit?

this is off topic but nonetheless relevant.
why has you tube removed the automatic 10 minute upload limit and replaced it with a do it yourself facility?
i just spent over 10 minutes uploading a video clip while playing drums
only to find i had gone over by 1 and a half minutes and because of that overlap
my videoclip was removed.
also i have noticed that the picture quality has gotten very poor...very blocky and horrible to watch.
what is happening to youtube?

i think the recent "improvements" have failed to improve the standard of uploading and playing back video clips.
my recent uploads are so blocky it is not worth watching let alone listening to.
